Siemens has won a QAR 45.2mn ($12.4mn) contract to help power Qatars new Hamad Port with a sizeable energy management package.
The deal was awarded by the megaprojects main contractor, a joint venture between Teyseer Contracting Company and Consolidated Contractors Group S.A.L.
This is the first contract for Siemens within the project and includes the supply of fully-integrated E-House substations that will significantly reduce on-site civil works and installation.
Siemens will also provide 22kV switchgears, 22kV transformers, low voltage switchgears, protection and power management systems, supervision of installation, testing and commissioning.
This deal for the Hamad Port in Qatar is a significant continuation of our strong relationship with Qatar. Once completed later this year, the megaproject will bring considerable economic benefits to the country, said Wolfgang Braun, Senior Executive Vice President, Energy Management, Siemens Middle East.
Strategically located south of Doha, the QAR 27bn ($7.4bn) megaproject includes a new port, a new base for the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces and the canal for Qatars Economic Zone 3.
Developed in multiple phases, the port will comprise three container terminals with an eventual combined annual capacity in excess of six million containers.
